Frequently asked questions

Should I use gross or net income?

Use net income after tax and payroll deductions. That is the money you actually receive and can plan with.

What is a good savings rate?

Many personal finance guides suggest 10–20% of net income. Even 5% is better than zero. A higher rate builds financial resilience faster.

How much income should rent take?

A common guideline is 30–35% of net income for rent. Including utilities, many guides suggest keeping total housing below 40%.

Should I include yearly expenses?

Convert yearly costs to a monthly amount (divide by 12) and add them to the relevant category. Examples: annual insurance, car service, or holiday savings.

Can I use this before moving country?

Yes. Enter the expected income and costs for your destination to estimate whether the budget will work.
